Melanda West Beach

The Track Was Frequented by Walkers, Cyprus

Very nice beach. Unfortunately there is a dirt track close by running along the low cliff at the back of the beach so it is not ideal for naturists. However, there is no development nearby and it is far enough away from the taverna on the main Melanda beach (past the headland to the east) to be worth consideration. There are a few secluded spots among the rocks where it may be possible to discreetly bare all if it is not too busy. The beach is sandy with some pebbles but is very narrow. When we visited in late March 2018, the waves were being driven right up to the foot of the cliff by high winds. because of this there was no dry sand anywhere on the beach so it was empty and we could not put it to the test. Nudism is not legal on any beaches in Cyprus and a sign on the track leading to this beach is testimony to a crackdown and prosecutions that occurred some years ago. However this beach is reputed to still be used by a few determined nudists and is listed on Cap'n Barefoot (www.capnbarefoot.info/cyprus:cyprus). Nudism may be possible here but as most of the beach is clearly visible from the top of the low cliff, extreme caution is advised! Most certainly only worth considering out of high season as, even when we visited in March, the track was frequented by walkers, cyclists and locals in pick-up trucks. Gawpers can be expected here!
