Safety as a wedge, not an afterthought.
FetLife’s biggest failure is opaque moderation. SDC’s biggest failure is harassment with no recourse. Our entire trust posture is designed around fixing both — with concrete, written commitments anyone can hold us to.
Defense in depth
Three layers, automated first, human escalation.
The pipeline runs every upload through known-bad hash matching, classifier scoring, and (where needed) human review — with the worst categories blocked at the client before bytes ever leave your device.
Layer 1
Zero tolerance, written down.
Any depiction of minors, any non-consensual content, any exploitation: immediate removal, account termination, and a report to the authorities where the law requires it. No warnings, no second chances.
Layer 2
One-tap reporting, human review.
Every profile, post, photo, and message can be reported in one tap. Reports go to human review — not an auto-closing queue. Industry scanning partnerships (PhotoDNA-class hash matching) are being added as the platform scales.
Layer 3
Consent-first rules, enforced.
Everyone depicted in a photo must be an adult who agreed to be shown. Contact escalation requires consent. The Community Guidelines are short, specific, and actually enforced.
Concrete commitments
Public, written, auditable.
The list every regulator, every processor, every press inquiry will ask about — answered in advance, in writing.
Statement of Reasons on every action.
Every warning, content removal, suspension, or ban ships with a written reason citing the specific rule it violated. Modeled on DSA Article 17.
One-tap appeal to a different moderator.
We commit to responding within 72 hours and resolving within 7 days. Appeals get a fresh look, not a rubber stamp. Bans state their duration. No shadow-fades.
Quarterly transparency reports — public.
Categories actioned, appeal rate, overturn rate, government requests, reports filed to authorities. Published on /transparency-report, first edition after our first full quarter.
NCII (intimate imagery) removal commitment: 48 hours.
Every photo can be reported. Confirmed non-consensual intimate imagery comes down within 48 hours and the account is terminated. StopNCII and Take It Down integrations are planned as we scale.
Strict rules for explicit content.
Everyone depicted must be an adult who consented to being shown. Sensitive compliance records are kept separate from the main database with restricted access, and formal record-keeping deepens as creator features roll out.
A working DMCA process.
Public takedown and counter-notification procedures, and a documented repeat-infringer policy — all published on /dmca.
“Your messages are not a data source. We never mine them — and when you report one, you choose what to share with us.”
— Public framing on message privacy
What we don’t collect
Less data is less risk.
The strongest privacy posture is the data you never collect. Precise location? Not collected. Exact last-seen? Not collected. Cross-site tracking? Not collected.
Explicit content
Explicit content allowed, with rules that hold.
We allow explicit content for adults — 18+ only, consent-first. Everyone depicted must be an adult who agreed to be shown, and it never enters a third-party data broker, ad auction, or AI training corpus.
Trust is earned in public.
Read our policies, ask hard questions, hold us to our commitments. We’ll publish what we promised, and the transparency reports will tell you whether we kept it.
