What does hotwife mean?

A hotwife is a woman in a committed relationship who has sex with other men with her partner’s knowledge, consent and, usually, enthusiasm. The partner is not humiliated by it, which is the main difference from cuckolding; he is turned on by it, often involved in planning it, and sometimes present. The stag and vixen label describes the same arrangement with the emphasis on the man’s pride rather than the wife.

Also called stag and vixen, vixen.

Hotwife vs cuckold vs swinging

All three involve a committed couple and sex with others, and the words describe who feels what. In hotwifing, the wife plays and the husband enjoys it, without humiliation. In cuckolding, the humiliation is the point: the man is denied, teased or demeaned, by agreement. In swinging, both partners play, usually together, often with another couple. A hotwife couple may also swing; a cuckold couple usually does not want the husband playing at all.

How it usually works

Most hotwife couples start with talk: a fantasy shared in bed that turns out to be mutual. From there, the usual steps are a profile as a couple, a first meeting with a single man in a public place, and an agreement on what happens, where, and what the husband hears or sees. Some husbands want every detail afterwards; some want to be in the room; some want to know nothing until the next morning. Each is a different arrangement and each needs saying out loud.

Stag and vixen

A stag is a man who takes pride in his partner’s desirability and shares her; a vixen is the woman. The terms arrived partly to shake off the humiliation that clings to cuckold and the ownership that clings to hotwife, and they describe the arrangement from the couple’s point of view: she is wanted, he is proud, the other men are guests. The same word, bull, is used in both worlds for the man she plays with.

What makes it work

The couple comes first in every decision, and both know it. Rules are explicit: protection, who is allowed, where, how often, and what happens if either of them feels different afterwards. Jealousy is talked about before it is tested, not after. The couples who do well treat the single men as people, not props; the ones who do not run out of men to play with quickly.

Questions people ask

What is a bull?

The man a hotwife or a cuckold’s partner has sex with. A good bull understands he is a guest in a couple’s dynamic, keeps to its rules, and does not try to take the wife out of it.

Is hotwifing the same as an open relationship?

It is one shape of one. In an open relationship either partner may play; in hotwifing the wife plays and the husband’s pleasure is in her playing. Some hotwife couples are also open both ways; many are not, by choice.

Does the husband have to watch?

No. Some couples want him present, some want him told afterwards, some want him to know only that it happened. All three are hotwifing. The arrangement is whatever the two of them agreed.
